Don’t know about you but we are getting excited at the fast approaching return of the AVA festival!
Debuts don’t come much better than what was displayed at last year’s celebration of homegrown talent and the line up this year has notched things up even further by combining an international flavor with talent from both the North and South of Ireland.
Add to that another great daytime conference line up headed up by techno visionary Mr. Juan Atkins, means this is shaping up for another serious day into night spectacle for our city.
Here are just a few reasons why we think you should make the effort to get along and hear one of the dance music greats impart some knowledge…
No secret these Detroit cats were influenced by Kraftwerk and Juan made it clear he knows how to concoct a killer electro groove of his own… as sampled by Missy Elliot on “Lose Control” proving he clearly has fans of this timeless classic everywhere.
His Metroplex label is one of the most consistent around and this colab with Holland’s Orlando Voorn is solid gold, think Basic Channel with a dose of the fidgets. First class house music and that word ‘timeless’ feels apt once again!
His Model 500 project, possibly another nod to his Robot influencers? This comes over like a raw Depeche Mode/hip house demo that was beamed in from a UFO… essential!!!
Put the electro to the side for a brief moment and just knock out a silky smooth garage/house number… Easy as that eh? It is if you’re Magic Juan!
No denying the guy has a sound and helped define a scene, what he gets from this synths and samples combination here is pure raw machine soul.
What happens when you stick two heavyweights in the bunker together? Dubbed out synth bliss, that’s what.
1990? Come on, that’s not even funny, another bleeped out weapon that could have been beamed in from another dimension here.
Possibly our favourite bassline from magic Juan, this one is guaranteed to rip up any dance floor.
More recent outing on the institution that is R&S records, proving he’s still the undisputed dance floor electro king.
Again, Juan’s no stranger to dabbling in other genres outside of techno and electro, here’s a little down tempo gem to ease you back down to Earth after the galactic funk workouts.
Motor city master at work we reckon!
